Checking In Again

So it has been a while, yet again.  However, things should be a bit more consistent soon.  I finished my class on Friday, thank God!, and will start my independent research this week.  I am very excited about it because it will be a 20-30 page paper on the new compliance legislation passed in 2002 regarding internal controls, especially for public companies.  Riveting right?  The good news is that I think it is.

Work has been great recently.  It has been kind of frustrating because I am working with insurance yet again but it's interesting to see how it works and having a family with medical background doesn't hurt either.  I have gotten to do the work myself and work with the client directly, running meetings with my in-charge supervising, and I love it.

I have been able to spend a lot of times with friends in the last two weeks and that has really made me happier.  This weekend was a complete girls weekend complete with dinner, arts and crafts, and the zoo.   I went out with a couple of girls from work on Saturday and they surprised me by celebrating my birthday too!  It was very sweet of them to think of me.

The next few weeks will go quickly as I have my research, working full time, and a weekend in DC with my Aunt Kris and her family.  I'm looking forward to it and will tell you about it next week.  Take care.

The Last Couple of Weeks

It's been a while since I have posted so I thought I would say hello.  Life is good in Omaha.  We have had a lot of storms especially Friday night.  For about 15 minutes we had at least 80 mile hour continuous winds.  There are still people (and businesses) out of electricity and two Council Bluff teens died in the storm.  That makes a total of 6 deaths in the Omaha area alone due to the storms in the last three weeks and they were all teenaged boys.

In good news, my second summer class is almost over and then I have my independent research.  My last weekend in KC was enjoyable and I've had a great time just goofing around town with friends in Omaha this weekend.  Among the highlights of the last two weeks includes a friend's birthday, random drives around town (sad, I know), and figuring out what to do after life at Creighton.  I am sure you will all be updated when I find out on August 1st if I get a job offer or not so please keep your fingers crossed and please pray for a career!  Keep in touch.

Exciting Weekend

This weekend was as good as I expected it to be and for that, I am very thankful. The work event was great and because we did so well as a region (within corporate) we each received a gift card for Best Buy. With that, I was able to buy a new digital camera because mine went ca-poot! I have already put it to good use and am excited to start taking more pictures so I am better able to remember the happenings in my life. The College World Series (CWS) was great on Saturday. We had fabulous seats and the environment is something I feel everyone should experience. You can't help but be happy when enjoying a baseball game featuring great raw talent and such a diverse fan base. Despite that, 7 hours in the direct sun didn't agree with me too well and I am still pink from my sunburn 5 days later.

Sunday I was able to spend time with friends during which I started my "first garden" and saw Laverne. I put "first garden" in quotes because it's 6 plants in pots that are on my balcony. I like them, haven't forgotten to water them yet, and remember to talk to them. I have included pictures because I'm so proud I am "domestic" (yeah right, my apartment is still a mess). Finally, a friend and I went to go see Laverne, the swimmer on Mutual. My friend and I are huge enough dorks that we named her because we think it is quite the feet to have a banner of a swimmer on the front of a 14 story building. At night is the best because there are blue lights on the side buildings next to the tower Laverne is on to project the image of water rippling. It truly is a piece of artwork in my opinion.

This week is busy as usual. I have a test Friday, a project due on Monday, a new assignment at work (which I am very grateful for), and a presentation for work on Monday. This weekend I am back in Kansas City for the last time in my stint of 9 weeks and am excited to see more family and friends.

Be sure to keep me updated on your life and know you are all blessings in my life!

Crazy Week

I can't believe this week has gone by so quickly.  It seems like yesterday I was driving back from Kansas City.  It has been busy with work, school, and the adrenaline rush of the tornadoes yesterday.  There were several that hit in the Omaha area and the boy scout camp was approximately an hour away from downtown.  The president of the University, Fr. Schlegel, came in tonight while I was working the desk and told me he was on Larry King Live because 5 of the scouts are still at the University Hospital.  In addition, one of my friends here (He's best friends with my mom's nephew) has several interviews from the Camp last night that are now on CNN.  Not bad for a 20 year old aspiring journalist.

I am very excited for this weekend for a couple of reasons.  Tomorrow we have an office-wide meeting with the firm and a social after. Then it's the College World Series this weekend and I'm having a Jesuit over for dinner on Sunday.  Pictures should get hung this weekend around the apartment and sometime next week, I will be sure to post pictures of the weekend and the apartment.
