Whirlwind Couple of Weeks

As you may or may not know, I have been offered an interview in Dallas in late October with McGladrey and Pullen.  I'm excited to spend the weekend down there and to get to know the office.  I will be going alone to see how I make it in the city for a couple of days.  It will be good to get some time to me and I might actually get something done (aka homework).  They told me I would hear from that office yay or nay by November 2 and even though the Omaha office is having interviews before Dallas is, they are saving me a position in the office.  I'll keep you posted when I hear more.

In other news, I keep finding the opportunities to live life to the fullest.  Last weekend my friend, Ashley, and I went to KC for the weekend.  It was good to hang out with her off campus and to finally have her and my family meet.  We had a good time going around Kansas City and hanging out a bit.  This weekend we are going to the Husker game against Virginia Tech with her family.  I have never been and am REALLY excited for it.  I forgot how much I miss seeing people on campus when walking to classes or studying.  With my internship last semester I didn't have the opportunity to see people that much but I am making up for lost time this year.

I probably won't post again soon because I have four weeks straight of tests.  It should be fine but I just need to put my nose in the books and get going on it.  Have a good start of fall!

It's Official

Somehow I thought life would get less hectic my senior year.  I have no idea what I was thinking.  Despite the stress of not knowing what the next step is, my life has been pretty crazy the past couple of weeks.  

This week was the first full week of classes.  I am already slightly behind and thus, am thankful for the weekend but am not proving to get much done.  I really like my classes, especially Auditing, and the professors seem fair enough.  There will be a couple of classes that will drag on but I am learning lots from the reading and that is good enough for me.  I now remember what it was like to love school and enjoy learning, the passion had left me for a while.  But now, without the stress of needing a job, I am able to enjoy them and just do it for the love of it.  My residents so far have been good.  I have a core group I see a lot and I have a few I don't see at all.  They are all very different from each other and not much for getting to know each other (if they didn't know each other already), but what else is to be expected from Sophomores with their own apartments?  

Otherwise, life has been pretty non-eventful.  Between going to class, working at Admissions, doing RA stuff, and studying my time is pretty busy but I am surrounded by great people along the way and that makes it much more enjoyable.  I am very anxious to see how the next few weeks will pan out and know the next 8 months will go by quickly.  Be in touch!

Another Update

Hello Again!  My life has "settled down" after RA training and I am a little over 24 hours away from classes beginning for my Senior year. The residents are here and are doing well minus the need for their room to be updated because somehow cable and internet is not working in majority of the rooms...go figure.  Otherwise, things are great and I am excited for a routine to commence in the next couple of weeks.

I did hear back from the firm and it will be a while longer until I hear anything definite.  They have positions open in the Dallas office but Omaha needs to hear for sure from Dallas before they consider my application.  That means I will be participating in the upcoming recruiting events taking place this fall and starting next week!  It will be a lot to handle with classes, RA, and Admissions but I am up for the challenge.  I will be going home over the Labor Day weekend and am looking forward to the break from Campus.  In the meantime, I will keep myself busy with my residents and my classes.

Time Flies

I can't believe how quickly the time goes  by!  Life has been busy but only in hindsight.  My last day at the firm was bittersweet.  I am hopeful about the job but not anticipating anything because there is still a long way until August 29 when I find out and then from August to next September when I would start.  I miss everyone there already but being busy and surrounded with family and friends has helped me to not skip a beat.

I was able to take a week off to go home and it was great.  I'm glad I got a break and was able to see everyone.  It went by fairly quickly but I am glad to be back in Omaha.  I have a little over 24 hours to get everything accomplished that I want to get accomplished before I don't have a life for 11 days.  I'm excited for my residents to finally get here and for the year to begin.  I was able to bring a bit of my trip to KC with me back to Omaha.  During my week at home, I started bike riding a bit and loved it so I brought my dad's old bike back with me and bought a helmet and a lock tonight so I can ride around campus and Omaha.  I am looking forward to it very much (nerdy I know).

It will probably be a while until I post again but hopefully I will be in touch with updates about school and life.  Enjoy the end of your summer!!

Decorating on a Dime

Last week I was able to enjoy myself very much.  A good friend, Ashley, and I were able to spend a lot of time together through arts and crafts night and then taking random pictures while being locked in a bathroom (don't ask).  In addition, we hung out over the weekend and were fairly productive.  I finally have my apartment decorated (gulp) and was able to do a good portion of it myself.  I painted some things for a long wall in my living room and Ashley and I made memory boards to display pictures.  All in all, I am very happy to have my apartment almost complete, now all I have to do is get rid of the excess furniture that has been here for months (terrible I know).

It is surreal to think my last day with the firm is Friday.  I should know by August 29 if I have a job with the firm and have a pretty good idea of what Dallas is thinking at that time as well.  Until Friday, I will be busy getting work, research, and friend time in while packing for my 10 days in KC.  I am very much looking forward to it but know it will go much quicker than I would like.  Have a good week and be in touch!

DC Time

I am currently on my way back from my weekend in DC with my Aunt and her family.  It was one of the best weekends I think I have had because we were able to just spend time with each other with no agenda but everyone still was able to enjoy a little bit of what they wanted.  A rare treat in my opinion!

I very much enjoyed my time with my cousins.  The oldest and I swam out to the far rope of the swimming area of the lake and back three times....not bad for his first time doing so.  The youngest of the two spent some time showing me how he is able to play the guitar and his dance moves.  I was pretty impressed with the way he was able to tap his foot to the beat of any song we listened to.  It is interesting to be around young kids for an extended period of time again.  It reminds you to loosen up, have a good time, and always be ready for a new game and to answer the age old question of "why".

I am so happy I was able to go and to spend time with family I don't get much time with.  It makes me very thankful that a full time job is in my near future so I will be better able to see friends and family who are far away, especially if I move to Dallas.  Have a good week! 

The Jig Is Up...

What a relief!!  Today I had my last meeting with the recruiting director for the Omaha office to talk about my internship and my future with McGladrey.  She gave me the results from the evaluations everyone who has worked with me this summer filled out and those were good.  But the hard part was when she asked where I would like to be located and I had to tell her not Omaha.  I know it technically doesn't matter but I have worked with these people for 7 months and they have taught me so much that it saddens me to think of leaving.  However, I told her I want to work in Dallas and if that doesn't work out, I would like to work in Omaha.  She at first made the process out to be a lot longer and more complicated than I think it is.  With that, here is how the process will work...

My last day at the firm is August 1 but they will not consider my information (graduation date, location, performance, etc.) until after August 15th when the other interns are done for the summer.  That would then set the offer date no later than August 29th but since I am putting in for Dallas, it takes a bit of a different track.  They still have to act as if I am accepted by Omaha before they will talk to Dallas because of obvious reasons.  Then they will talk to Dallas (so after August 29th) and get back to me if they have space or not.  If not, then I should have a job in Omaha for me.  I asked the recruiting director if putting in for Dallas would jeopardize my position in Omaha and she said absolutely not so it should be good.

I am extremely happy to have this over with.  It was a decision long in the making and that I have been stressing about for a month now.  Thank you to all of those who put up with me and helped me along the way.  It's a good feeling at the end of the day to know I did everything I could.  I'll be sure to keep everyone updated on what happens with it all!
